GESAM National Secretariat

GESU Fund

Background

The Global Evangelical Students and Associates’ Ministry (GESAM) is the students’ wing of the Global Evangelical Church which operates from the various tertiary and Senior High schools in the country. Its roots can be found in 32 tertiary institutions and 30 Senior High Schools in the country.

The group operates under the Department of Church Life and Nature (CLAN) and has over 2000 members nationwide. As part of its objectives, the ministry seeks to provide opportunities, facilities and tools for the development and sharpening of gifts, talents, skills, and abilities of members for the growth of the Global Evangelical Church and the nation at large.

As part of the ministry’s efforts to invest in the process of human resource development of its members, the ministry deems it fit to establish an education support fund.

Over the years, the secretariat has received quite a number of requests from our students across the country asking for one form of assistance or the other. Quite unfortunately the secretariat has not been able to meet any of such requests. It is sad to note that we have lost a good number of our members to other ministries that could extend a helping hand to them in those times of dire need.

Some campuses have set up some form of welfare schemes to support some of their colleagues. This initiative however laudable has not been able to match up to overwhelming need for financial support. Even though some congregations have set up similar initiatives in their congregations, this goes to benefit just a handful of students.

25 Years after the establishment of GESAM, the ministry has made strides in human resource development of members of the church, some of whom are occupying enviable positions in the church and the corporate world at large. With the wide network of Associates and the goodwill we continue to enjoy as a ministry from individuals, pastors and the church leadership as a whole, it is time to have such a fund to support our students and to ensure that their academic aspirations do not become a mirage because of the lack of money.

We believe it is time to take action and make those bold moves that will ensure that we give as many members as possible a better chance at fulfilling their dreams of becoming well educated citizens.

The Fund

It is in this vein that we seek to establish this education support fund. The plan is to raise an initial seed capital of two hundred and fifty thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc250,000) over a two year period.

With the network of Associates, students, churches and individuals whose good will we have enjoyed over the last 25 years since the formation of GESAM we believe this goal is attainable.
